We’re pleased to introduce expanded study abroad STEM programs that will allow all academic majors to enroll in a CIEE study abroad program that matches their academic course requirements and their personal interests!

CIEE has shaped a global portfolio of STEM programs in three distinct program categories:

  1. CIEE multidisciplinary academic programs with “STEM Inside”
  2. CIEE Engineering, Technology + Science programs
  3. CIEE specialized STEM programs

New - CIEE Programs with “STEM Inside” in ALL 40 CIEE Locations

Beginning Fall 2025, CIEE will add new STEM courses to our core portfolio of semester programs, including CIEE Semester InCIEE Open Campus Block, CIEE Arts + Sciences, and CIEE Business and Culture programs, so students from all majors can take a STEM class while studying overseas.

These courses are delivered in-person by highly rated CIEE English-speaking professors and professors from our international partner institutions, as well as by exceptional ASU professors through online, asynchronous courses. All of ASU’s online courses are accredited by the most prestigious accrediting organizations (e.g. ABET accreditation for engineering courses, AACSB for business courses) and taught by the same ASU faculty that teach ASU courses in-person.

CIEE has added top-ranked Arizona State University to our global list of 75 international partner universities. While international partner universities offer hundreds of in-person classes to CIEE students in their local city, ASU offers thousands of online courses to CIEE students in all 40 CIEE locations, including hundreds of accredited STEM courses.

New - CIEE Engineering, Technology + Sciences Programs in 31 Locations

In Fall 2025, we will launch a new STEM-focused program called CIEE Engineering, Technology + Sciences (CIEE ETS) that will combine STEM courses with STEM co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, providing a coordinated and intense international learning experience.

Students will take one or more courses in science, technology, engineering, or math, from some combination of 1) direct enroll courses at one of our international host institutions, 2) CIEE’s local course offerings, or 3) ASU’s online courses.

What makes this program special is that CIEE ETS programs are enriched with program-aligned, STEM-related co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including internships, research projects, company visits, field trips, and guest lectures.

Your students might study computer science at Hanyang University, marine biology at University of Ghana, chemical engineering at IQS Barcelona, aerospace engineering at UC3M in Madrid, math and statistics at University of Cape Town, astronomy at University College Dublin, physics at Berlin University of Applied Sciences, and so much more!

Existing - CIEE Specialized STEM Programs in 11 Locations

CIEE has many specialized STEM programs offered around the world, from Summer Comparative Public Health Systems (London + Amsterdam) to Global Architecture + Design in Berlin to Tropical Ecology + Conservation in Monteverde. We will continue to support and expand this portfolio.

CIEE is Leading Change in Study Abroad for STEM Programs

Many of our leading U.S. partner universities have shared with us that this expansion of STEM coursework and STEM programs will “change the game in international education” and provide radical access for all students. Now, all STEM majors can study abroad wherever they desire and get the courses they need, and all non-STEM majors can take a STEM class overseas in virtually every academic area.
