Japanese Language & Culture Kyoto, Japan
Hometown: Flushing, Michigan, USA

Hi! I'm Katharine, but I often go by Kate. I was born in central Ohio, raised in southeast Michigan, and now live in northeast Oregon. I have always loved other cultures and languages and am so happy to be a part of CIEE's High School Study Abroad program to help other students explore the world! I was heavily involved with my high school's foreign exchange student club and made many international friends, some of whom I'm still in contact with. I began my study of Japanese in college, and that was when I first set foot in Japan. Acting as a Program Leader (PL) in Kyoto for Session 1 will be my 13th visit to Japan, and I still see many more in my future. I am so excited to share all I love about the Japanese people, language, and culture with CIEE's HSSA students this summer!
