After school, we went to Nishi Asakusa for a calligraphy workshop. On the way, we received beautiful flowers from a newly opened flower shop, experiencing unexpected Japanese hospitality. Upon arrival, we took off our shoes at the genkan and were guided to the second floor. The instructor gave us a brief history of calligraphy, demonstrated simple patterns for us to practice, and emphasized the importance of stroke order and brush movements to create well-structured, beautiful characters. We were able to write using all three Japanese scripts: hiragana, katakana, and kanji. Some of us also had our names written using ateji. The workshop was a wonderful experience, leaving us with great memories and the skills to continue practicing and refining our Japanese writing.
