The Walking Tours of Dublin
During their last week in Dublin, the students were able to explore Dublin further through three different walking tours. The first tour focused on Dublin's LGBTQ community and landmarks. As we explored Dublin, the students learned about the experiences of LGBTQ individuals under oppresive legislation that criminalized homosexuality until 1993. Our tour guide, Tonie Walsh is an active member Dublin's queer culture and was able to share his own personal experiences.
On the second walking tour, the students learned about the important role of women in the 1916 Easter Rising. Our tour started at Dublin Castle and led us through various historical sights before ending at St. Stephen's Green. The students learned about the experiences of Irish Women and the suffragette movement.
Finally, the students were taken on a Ballad Tour of Dublin. Our tour guide led us through Temple Bar and to St. Patricks Cathedral while singing traditon Irish Ballads. They were taught a chorus and dance outside of Christ Church and able to put their new moves to the test.
