Embracing Tradition: The Art of Aizome Tie-Dye

Aizome, the traditional art of Japanese "tie dye," has been a cherished art form in Japan for centuries. Known for its deep blue indigo hues, Aizome was historically used for dyeing fabrics for samurai armor, kimonos, and other garments. The rich, vibrant shades of blue produced through this method are both timeless and beautiful.
Students began their creative journey learning about the history and significance of Aizome as their instructor explained the intricate process. They were provided with white cotton fabrics and shown various traditional tie-dye techniques, such as folding clamping. Each technique let students experiment and express their individuality.
With gloves on, students dipped their tied fabrics into the indigo vat for 5 minutes. After rinsing and wringing them out, students revealed their original creations- a mesmerizing collection of patterns!
