Welcome to Monteverde!
We made it! The last 24 hours has been a whirlwind of travel and new experiences.
Most of us started our travel EARLY on Saturday morning as we headed to Miami to meet up for our flight to San Jose. We were joined by some of our fellow Global Navigators headed to the Climate Change Mitigation program that is also taking place in Monteverde.
It was a fairly smooth flight in to San Jose with just a little turbulence at the end of our flight. Once on the ground we gathered our belongings, cleared customs, and were greeted by a news crew waiting on the soccer team to arrive. After making our way through the crowd we found our CIEE friends and independent travelers and loaded up the buses to head to lunch. At this point friendships and connections were already being made and the excitement for the next three weeks was contagious.
The best way to describe the journey to the CIEE campus in Monteverde is an adventure. We encountered curvy roads, a lightening storm, and snakes in the road, that we stopped for and allowed to pass. The storm made for some really cool pictures on our journey.
We arrived last night after dark so waking up this morning to the sound of the birds chirping and taking our first look at the campus in the light was incredible. Monteverde is such a beautiful place. The Women In STEM program is staying in the Bungalows, below you can find a picture of Bungalow A and a small glimpse of Bungalow B.
Today has been a day of learning the campus, orientations for the program, and a trip to the farm. At the farm we got to see the pigs, chickens, and greenhouse. Some of us may have lost our footing on the way down to see the greenhouse and are carrying some extra mud on our pants...
These three weeks are sure to fly by fast with this incredible group of young women!
